Calculations

Our squares are to be 7" square so calculating the number of stitches required for each stitch pattern is required. I've determined that garter or stocking stitch requires 29 of my knitting or purling stitches. I initially tried 49 stitches for the mitered square and had to unpick them all as the square was coming out, after quite a bit of knitting, as 6". So then I made the square with 55 stitches.

My next square will be in Linen stitch - this time I knit a swatch - which was 2" wide with 9 stitches so I'm going to use 31 stitches.
